However, where your furniture is placed can make a big difference in how comfortable your guests are and how smoothly things run on the day of your party. When **arranging your furniture for entertaining**, you want to be sure they will stay comfortable and have enough room to enjoy themselves while making memories that will last for years. Here are some tips on how to arrange your living room so your gathering runs smoothly and is enjoyable for everyone you invite. ## Make Sure There is Ample Seating for Everyone In addition to your standard [living room furniture](https://www.giorgibros.com/living-room.inc), you’ll need spaces where people can get in the action.  Add a chair, ottoman or bench to make it easy for additional people to sit and have conversation. While your guests will likely be up and about around the room, having plenty of seating makes sure no one will feel guilty if they want to take a seat. ![arrange your living room](https://blog.giorgibros.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/living-room-furniture-arrangement-1024x684.jpg?width=1024&height=684&name=living-room-furniture-arrangement-1024x684.jpg) ## **Leave a Path to the Kitchen** It’s likely that you’ll be serving some sort of food or beverages during your party, so make sure to leave a path to the kitchen so that your guests can help themselves to the snacks you set out. To make things easier, you can even set up a serving cart or buffet in the living room with snacks and drinks, and leave the messier items in the kitchen. ## Make Room for Standing While it’s important to include plenty of seating, a party where everyone’s on the sofa is hardly a party at all. Consider moving furniture to the perimeter of the room so there is plenty of space in the living room to stand and have a conversation, or even dance! This is one of the #1 rules for arranging your furniture for entertaining. ## Cocktail Tables and More If you’re serving food or beverages, **make sure you have at least a few side tables around** your living room so guests have a place to place their drink. Place these near the sofa and chairs to prevent people from placing food and drinks on the floor where they can easily be kicked over. Last but not least, if you have an area rug in your living room, it might be a good idea to roll it up and move it during your party. Guests typically prefer to leave their shoes on during parties, so this will ensure your favorite area rug does not get ruined.
