Furniture wants to make sure that everyone is prepared for what Winter can bring. As one of the finest [patio furniture stores in South San Francisco](https://www.giorgibros.com/outdoor-furniture,outdoor%20heating_cooling_air/department-type.aspx), our team of experts have put together this guide to help people around the country who have more extreme climates to handle, and want to make sure their patio furniture can last for season after season. When the temperatures start to dip lower the days become shorter, you know that winter is about to arrive. If you want to protect your patio furniture and everything else outdoors, knowing how to prepare your patio for winter is key. Whether it’s a large deck, an open patio area, or a covered porch, read on for some simple, effective tips to help you prepare your patio for the winter months ahead.  ## **Secure Loose Items** When you think about how to prepare your patio for winter, one of the first things to consider is putting furniture and smaller items in some kind of secure storage. If you happen to have a garage, this is the best place to keep patio sofas, chairs, and tables until the weather warms up again. A garden shed should also suffice and provide you with enough room to store lightweight items that could blow away or tip over during winter storms. You should also secure other loose objects like garden tools, patio umbrellas, and pool toys. Keeping everything in storage during the winter won’t just prevent it from blowing away, but it will also protect it against damage and fading from the winter weather. ## **How to Prepare Your Patio for Winter: Use Covers** If you don’t have extra storage for your furniture and other belongings, a durable patio furniture cover should help to keep everything protected. Look for snug-fitting, weather-resistant covers that are specially made to fit your specific furniture shape and size. Covers are also excellent for protecting your barbecue grill. If you have a pool, then covering it during the winter is also a crucial part of prepping for winter’s arrival. Using covers won’t replace putting items in storage, but it’s still a better measure of protection than leaving everything bare on the patio. ## **Remove Debris** Autumn is a perfect time to do some cleaning inside your home as well as outside on your patio. Rake leaves, trim shrubs, and remove weeds. This is also a good time to get rid of loose debris like twigs, branches, and sticks. Cut down dead limbs and trim trees so that nothing breaks off and falls on top of your roof or pergola. Fall is also a wonderful time of year to thoroughly clean your patio with a special cleaning solution. After you clean, look for any cracks, potholes, and other signs of damage that may need repair. Now is a perfect time to go ahead and make those repairs, so your patio, walkway, and driveway will be in great shape and ready to enjoy when the weather warms up once more. Keep these tips in mind to prep your patio for winter, so you can enjoy the colder months of the year in confidence.
